Blogging Statistics

Franki of Life in a Venti cup is off to Vegas for the "Blog World Expo". Imagine a convention devoted entirely to Blogging. And if that is not enough I was amazed to read these statics on the convention's web-site.......

  • Over 12 million American adults currently maintain a blog.
  • More than 147 million Americans use the Internet.
  • Over 57 million Americans read blogs.
  • 1.7 million American adults list making money as one of the reasons they blog.
  • 89% of companies surveyed say they think blogs will be more important in the next five years.
  • 9% of Internet users say they have created blogs .
  • 6% of the entire US adult population has created a blog .
  • Technorati is currently tracking over 70 million blogs .
  • over 120 thousand blogs are created every day .
  • There are over 1.4 million new blog posts every day .
  • 22 of the 100 most popular websites in the world are blogs .
  • 37% of blog readers began reading blogs in 2005 or 2006 .
  • 51% of blog readers shop online .
  • Blog readers average 23 hours online each week .

The statistic that really captured my attention is that "blog readers average 23 hours online each week". Wow. What do you think of these statistics, and do you think that Blogging is here to stay??

  1. Patricia, that is quite staggering! I'm suprised at just how many people have blogs AND how much time they spend reading them...

And to answer your question, yes, I think blogging is here to stay. I'm not a fan of mainstream media, and I think this is an excellent way for ordinary people to get their thoughts out to the rest of the world. And, from my experience, its a fantastic way of meeting and conversing with like-minded people - it certainly helps break down the geography barrier!

  5. Hi Patricia!
I know I will continue blogging as much as I have time for! It is a strong force which is truly being recognized out there in the world! I love it because it is my main way to connect with people interested in the same things as I....like you! :)

  7. God bless blogging! Sometimes I feel like a nerdy, social recluse when explaining it to my less internet saavy friends, but these stats prove we are on to something! How very interesting--thanks for sharing.

  8. I think we have seen with the recent demise of H&G magazine that the internet might be the future for design information. I agree with everyone about the connections that can be made. I love chatting with people who are just as obsessed with something as I am. I also love the immediacy of the internet. I can see something and blog about it an hour later. Now if I could just figure out how to make money off of it, I'd be all set!

  10. HI HC
I don't know of any other medium that is as fast as getting things out as blogging nor as cost efficient. Low overhead, your laptop and you're ready to go!!

  11. OMG - I can't believe I was in a drug induced coma and missed this in my home town. That's just adding insult to injury. I would have loved to have attended. Bummer!!!!!
If it's here again next year I will host a mini design blog junket and you all can come out and stay with me and attend.
