DIY Grace Kelly Hermes Bag

image

Kelly Bag

What woman hasn’t lusted after a Kelly handbag from Hermes. I know I have, but with a price tag over $10,000.00 I think twice. Even though the price tag is so high there is a waiting list to own one of these bags. Last time I was in New York I dropped into the Hermes store and enquired about purchasing  and was told that there was a several month wait and it was on a first come first serve basis. They were very vague about timing, color choices etc. and I was informed that they would not accept enquiries over the phone. Apparently you have to check in person in the store for the privilege of being able to buy one. Fine if you live in New York, have the time to hang around the store, and have the money to spend. The distinctive closure on the Kelly bag is what makes it so recognizable. I thought this DIY project was quite clever and could be fun to make if you are lusting after your own Kelly bag or know someone who is.

  3. Good Morning......the vintage photo (1)is actually the Kelly Bag but the single photo example (2) is the Birkin Bag - for Jane Birkin. There are slight differences, including the flap closure, the sloping top and the overall size of the bag. There are no differences, however, in the wait lsit for the bag or the price range! YIKES! I will take my Kelly in orange please!

Kelly handbags have become known for their high class elegance and high quality, and for many years they have been celebrated as the best handbag available.

  8. Some years ago threads magazine posted a project where some leather crafters took a paper pattern from the hermes website and made their own leather bags from the similar paper pattern. wouldn't you know that by the time I got the the hermes website the paper pattern was long gone! The copy leather bags in thread looked great, too. one was green and one was pony hair. Thanks for finding the or a paper pattern for me!
