Christmas in New York City - The Shop Windows

Christmas in New York City - The Shop Windows

2009 Dec NYC 141

This year I am fortunate to be spending some 'Christmas time' in New York, which for me is one of the prettiest times of year in this city.  There is so much to see and to do here at any time of year, but especially more so at Christmas.  The displays in the store windows are magnificent, the Christmas lights are bigger and better than anywhere, the concerts, shows and theatre are at their best, the restaurants are overflowing, and the stores are filled with shoppers looking for just the right gifts, and everywhere the city is filled with good cheer. Enjoy the pictures.

I loved the awnings at Lord & Taylor which were totally covered in green boughs and thousands of twinkle lights.

Anthropologie Rockefeller Center had fun and unusual window displays, like this one of the pink Cadillac in the snow bank.

My pictures below of the windows at Bergdorf really don’t do the beautiful displays the justice they deserve. They were so much better than the photos. There were so many people standing in front of the windows, that it was hard to get a full shot, and then the battery went dead on my camera and I had to take the rest of the photos on my iPhone at a much lower resolution.  It is really hard to describe the amount of people in New York, unless you have been there at Christmas time.  When I returned to Vancouver it felt like a sleepy little Hamlet in comparison.

The striking glass structure of the Apple Store is iconic.  You enter through the glass doors into a glass cube and a spiral glass staircase leads to the service floor below ground.  I had my new iPhone with me and took it out to show it where it was born.  I am sure that there are going to be a lot of Happy little iPhones under the Christmas tree this year.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Let your heart be light
From now on,
our troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Make the Yule-tide gay,
From now on,
our troubles will be miles away.

Here were are as in olden days,
happy golden days of yore.
Faithful friends who are dear to us
gather near to us once more.

Through the years we all will be together
If the Fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough.

And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.

  3. I moved from from the San Francisco Bay Area to open an inn in Prince Edward Island, Canada. One of the few things I truly miss is viewing the cosmopolitan Christmas windows. I wouldn't trade the natural winter wonderland of our current pastoral hilltop. And now, we can also enjoy vicariously with your post. Thank you, Patricia, for publishing these inspired expressions.

Beauty is always in the eyes of those beholding.

May you all walk in beauty.
